"Learning English through Memes"

Objectives:

1. To involve the students in  language  projects with activities they like and they have fun.

2. To write funny stories creating the plot, the characters, the places, and different situations and moments (beggining, middle and end) involving memes.  

3.  To talk about events which happened in the past (simple pastand past continuos) and to speak about other which happened before other actions. (past perfect)

4. To recognize words which shows time, place, direction, movement and agent relation. (prepositions)

5. To interact with students in virtual classes using e-tools and social nets.

WHEN TO USE IN – ON – AT


Prepositions are words which show a relation of location, place, direction, agent and instrument. In, on and at are very common and useful prepositions. Let’s see an appropriate use of these words.

In general, the preposition in, is used for an enclosed space, at for a specific point and on, when something is on a surface. However, these prepositions have other uses that are very important to learn. 

IN 

TIME

1. Months of the year   

Examples

  •   We celebrate Christmas in December.
  •  Mother’s Day is in May.
2. Year

  •  The first world war was in 1914
  • Colombia was free from Spain in 1819
  • Gabriel Garcia Marquez got a Nobel prize in 1982
3. Season

  •  It’s too hot in Summer.
  •   People wear jackets, coats, gloves, and sweaters in Winter.
  •  The leaves of trees fall in Autumn.

Parts of the day

  • In the morning.       I study in the morning
  • In the afternoon.     My family use to watch t.v. in the afternoon.
  •  In the evening.       We have dinner in the evening.   
5.    Week

  • There are seven days in a week.
  •  I work 5 days in the week.
6   Decades or centuries

  • The world got into a new period named “Globalization” in the 90’s.
  •  The first and the second world war occurred in the  20TH century.  

PLACE OR LOCATION

1.    Continents, Countries, cities, towns. 

  • Colombia is located in America.

  • Where is France located? It’s in Europe. 

2.    Enclosed space.

  • I am in the car now.
  • The cat is in the box
  • We live in Country Plaza neighborhood.

  • There  are many people  in the street

1.    Days of the week.

  • English class is on Thursday.
  • We don’t study on Saturdays.
  • On Mondays, I´ll be at the doctor.

2.    Day – Part of the day

  •  I like jogging on Saturday morning
  •  The game will be on Monday night.

3.    Specific dates

  • Independence Day is on July 20th
  • America’s discovery by Christopher Columbus was on October 12th 
  • The attack of world Trade Center in NYC was on September 11th
  •  I will travel to San Andres on my birthday. 

4.    Some Holidays + DAY

  • Some people use to pray and decorate eggs on Easter day.
  • Most of people don´t work on Labor day.

5.    On the weekend (American)

  • My girlfriend likes going dancing on the weekend.}

  • The bank is on Roosevelt Avenue

TIME

1.    Expressing the time when something happens 

  • The English class is at 7:00 am
  •  I always get up at 6:00 am

2.    Parts of the day 

  • At night                                   I like watching news at night.
  • at noon – at Midday                I have lunch at noon.
  • at midnight                             Some young people go to bed at midnight

3.    At the weekend – at weekends (british)   Let´s go out at the weekend

  • At the top                  I can see her at the top of the hill.
  • At the front                She lives at the front of my apartment.
  • At the end                 he’s at the end of the corner – everybody was crying at the end of the movie – at the end of the street there is a big supermarket.
  • At the beginning        at the beginning of the movie I was bored. 
                                    

Please don’t use the prepositions in, on, at when using expressions like last, next, every and this
